Logitech Created a Mouse That Folds Like a Flip Phone — and It's Not Just Marketing

Mobi Fold for $90 — Logitech's first foldable mouse without a physical scroll wheel and with "1 minute = 22 hours" charging. But one design quirk may deter buyers.

Logitech has released the Mobi Fold — a wireless mouse with a hinge mechanism that transforms into a flat rectangle that fits in a pocket when folded. Unfolding automatically turns the device on, closing turns it off. Price: $90.

How it differs from previous "compact" mice

The main competitor in this niche — Microsoft Surface Arc — has existed for nearly a decade and weighs 82 grams. Mobi Fold takes a different approach: instead of Arc's flexible base, it has two rigid halves on a hinge. When unfolded, they lock into an arc-shaped position that lifts the palm and reduces wrist strain. Logitech claims a 22% reduction in muscle tension compared to a laptop trackpad — a figure that remains difficult to verify independently.

There is no scroll wheel. Instead, there is an Adaptive Touch Scrolling sensory strip between the left and right buttons. According to reviews by The Shortcut, it functions not just as scrolling: a double tap zooms in, a tap on the upper part goes "forward" in the browser, on the lower part goes "back". Through Logi Options+, functions can be reassigned, including opening ChatGPT.

"The strip works at nearly the level of modern trackpads and is speed-sensitive"

Battery: one minute solves the forgotten charger problem

A full charge is rated for 30 days. More critical detail: one minute of charging from any USB-C cable provides 22 hours of operation. Engadget confirmed this in testing — in 60 seconds, the charge level increased from 70% to 80%. After two and a half weeks of use, more than 70% remained. The cable and adapter are not included in the package.

Technical specifications

  • Connection: Bluetooth to 3 devices simultaneously
  • Colors: Graphite, Off-White, Lilac
  • Length when unfolded: 120 mm
  • Width of sliding surfaces: only 37 mm
  • DPI: 1600 (according to one source)

Where the design falls short

Heise Online identified a practical problem: the sliding surface width of only 37 mm means that during intensive clicking, the mouse can easily tip to the side. For office work and travel — not critical, for anything faster — noticeable. Bluetooth latency is higher than in mice with proprietary dongles, although Mobi Fold supports both connection modes.

The real question concerns the hinge: Microsoft Arc uses a flexible base with no moving parts — and it lasts for years. Mobi Fold relies on two rigid blocks with a mechanical connection. The long-term reliability of the hinge after thousands of openings remains unknown — none of the published reviews so far covers more than a few weeks.

If the hinge lasts at least two years of daily use — Mobi Fold will become the standard for those who work with a laptop outside the office. If not, $90 will become another lesson in the difference between "innovative design" and reliable engineering.
