The Ukrainian interceptor drone Sting S has already shot down approximately ten "Geran-4" and several "Geran-5" units. The developers from "Wild Hornets" shared details about the combat results.
The interceptor is currently undergoing combat trials in the 1020th anti-aircraft missile regiment. Sting S was created based on the previous Sting model, but the new device was adapted to combat jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles that fly faster than conventional propeller-driven "Shahed" drones.
The exact technical specifications of the drone have not yet been disclosed. The company notes that the design and characteristics of Sting S may still be modified based on the results of combat use on the front lines. Most targets were hit by the device using the Hornet Vision Ctrl remote control system.
One of the confirmed cases is the interception of a "Geran-5" by the "Rubin" crew from the 1020th regiment. This Russian jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle has a length of approximately 6 meters, a wing span of up to 5.5 meters, and a warhead weighing 90 kg.
What this changes
The emergence of jet-powered "Gerans" was a response to the success of Ukrainian interceptors against slower kamikaze drones. Sting S is an attempt to close this new high-speed niche before Russia increases their production.
