Zelensky warned in the evening of July 1 about a high probability of a massive strike: according to intelligence, Russia was preparing an attack in advance. At 1:59, the Air Force confirmed: ballistic missiles are heading to Kyiv from the east. The attack lasted 11 hours — until 7:00 a.m.
Weapons and Tactics
Russia used several types of weapons at once: ballistic "Kinzhal" and "Zircon" missiles, Kh-101 cruise missiles (launched from Tu-95MS bombers after 3:00), reactive strike drones and loitering ammunition "Banderol" (S8000). According to Radio Free Europe, "Banderol" is a hybrid of a cruise missile and an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of changing trajectory in flight; Russia began using it on a large scale in spring 2025. The combination of high-speed ballistics with maneuverable ammunition puts maximum strain on air defense systems.
Casualties and Destruction
As of 7:00 a.m., KMVA head Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the death of at least nine people, with information about several more being verified. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported ten dead. Wounded — 56, including at least two children. Early figures (1 dead, 11 wounded at 3:50) did not reflect the true scale: rescue operations under the rubble continued throughout the morning hours.
Damage was recorded at over 30 locations across all districts of the city. Among specific sites:
- Shevchenko District — strike on an emergency medical care station: five medics and drivers wounded, one paramedic in critical condition; fire on the roof of a hotel in the city center
- Darnitsky District — destruction from the first to sixth floors in a nine-story building, people trapped inside
- Desnyansky District — partial destruction of a nine-story building
- Sviatoshyn District — two fires at different addresses, the first confirmed death was recorded there
- Holosiyivsky, Obolonsky, Podilsky Districts — destruction and damage to residential and civilian buildings
The enemy once again deliberately strikes residential neighborhoods and kills civilians. We have very serious destruction and a significant number of victims, including children.

The Strike on the Emergency Service — Not Accidental
The hit on the emergency medical care station in Shevchenko District fits into a documented pattern of attacks on emergency medical facilities. Five medics who were wounded that night were supposed to provide assistance to other victims of the same strike. A paramedic in critical condition — according to Klitschko, as of morning, his condition had not changed.
If the death toll from rescue operations exceeds ten — this attack would become one of the deadliest on Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The true scale of losses will be determined after the completion of debris clearance in the Darnitsky and Desnyansky districts.
