Ukraine plans to update the metallogenic map at a scale of 1:500,000, which was last revised 23 years ago, and complete the «Derzhgeolkarta-200» program. Yehor Perelyhin, Deputy Minister of Economy, met with the leadership of the British Geological Survey and agreed on these steps.
Partnership with BGS
The parties agreed to formalize cooperation in the fields of geology and mining through the preparation of a memorandum between the geological surveys of Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The British Geological Survey — the UK’s national geoscience institution — conducts geological mapping, assesses mineral resources, and analyzes geological risks.
Training and working group
In addition to updating the maps, the partners agreed to develop training and professional development programs for Ukrainian geologists. They also plan to establish a joint working group to coordinate projects in the area of critical minerals and safe extraction.
Large service companies will be involved in this group’s work to provide advice on priorities, reserve estimation methodologies, and improving the quality of geological information.
- On May 14, the signing of an agreement to create an American–Ukrainian investment fund for reconstruction strengthened prospects for attracting investment into geological exploration and subsoil use in Ukraine.
