Ukraine's Naftogaz said that on the evening of December 1 and the morning of December 2 Russian drones struck facilities that provide gas production and storage.

Company employees were not injured, but damage was recorded; information on its extent is not yet available.

Nature of the attacks

Russian strikes on Naftogaz facilities have continued since early October. At the end of November the company for the first time showed journalists one of the sites damaged by a massive attack.

In the released footage, metal structures are shown scattered in pieces, and pipelines after being hit were reduced to crumpled chunks of metal.

Restoration and needs

Naftogaz teams are ready to begin restoration work after receiving permission from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Due to damage to production capacities, Ukraine will have to additionally import more than 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas from European Union countries and from the United States.

  • On the night of November 8, Russia carried out another massive strike on Naftogaz's gas infrastructure — it was the ninth such incident since early October.
