On the evening of September 19 in Dnipro, the "New Continent" shopping center on Peremogy Embankment caught fire after being hit by a Russian drone, with at least three people injured.
"Russian monsters struck an ordinary shopping center on the long-suffering Peremogy. Windows were also blown out in several adjacent buildings," wrote Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov on social media.
Photos and videos from the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service and the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Administration show that this small two-story shopping center was severely burned.
The "New Continent" shopping center opened in 2005 and is located on a busy transit highway that connects the residential areas of Topolia, Sokil, and Peremogy with the city center and residential areas on the left bank.
It housed stores such as Foxtrot, EVA, Aurora, Gold&Silver, the Dao Sun furniture salon, a Nova Poshta branch, and others.
Series of attacks on shopping centers
Since August 2026, Russians have been actively striking shopping centers in various Ukrainian cities. The attacks have damaged numerous complexes, including City Mall and Amstor in Zaporizhzhia, Manufactura in Sumy, and Gulliver in Pavlograd.
In Kryvyi Rih, the strike on the Soniachna Gallery shopping center killed 16 people.
Shopping centers are located in densely built-up urban areas next to residential buildings—which is why strikes against them are accompanied by damage to neighboring buildings. The question remains whether this repeated target will become part of a broader tactic of exhausting civilian infrastructure, or will remain isolated incidents in specific regions.
