When the head of a bank's management board is directly asked why his app's rating is significantly lower than monobank's, and he responds "judging by such a rating, we are less efficient" — this is a rarity in the Ukrainian banking sector. That's exactly how Vladimir Dubey, head of TASCOMBANK owned by Sergiy Tigipko, responded in an interview with LIGA.net.
According to him, over the past two years the bank deliberately did not develop its existing apps — EasyBank, TASCOMBANK and TAS Business — because it was preparing a transition to a new technology platform. The logic is simple: there's no point investing resources in a product built on outdated architecture if it will have to be replaced in a year or two anyway.
One owner, two speeds
The most telling moment here is not the amount of investments, but the very fact of comparison. TASCOMBANK and Universal Bank (the same one that manages monobank) belong to the same financial and industrial group TAS. In other words, this is not about market competitors, but about two products within one business empire that developed at radically different speeds.
Monobank over the years of operation has built a reputation as one of the most technologically advanced banking apps in the country. TASCOMBANK, on the other hand, halted the development of its own products for two years — and this affected customer experience and ratings in the stores.
"Of course, I apologize to customers and ask them to be patient for a while. This does not mean that we will immediately get an app better than all existing ones on the market," Dubey said.
Who is building the new product
The development is being carried out by Ukrainian company Trigger Software, which specializes in banking and fintech software. Its portfolio includes Trigger Neobank Engine and the O.Bank app for Ideya Bank. That is, TASCOMBANK chose not an internal team, but a contractor with specialized experience specifically in neobanking.
Development costs have already exceeded $2 million, and Dubey directly says that the final amount is still unknown because work is ongoing. The launch is scheduled for August — this is approximately one year from when the bank officially discontinued support for old versions.
What this means for customers
TASCOMBANK is one of Ukraine's largest banks focused on business operations, with over 80 branches and net profit exceeding 1 billion hryvnias in 2025. For customers of such a bank, a mobile app is often not the primary channel of interaction — unlike monobank, which is built around the app as its main product.
The question for August is simple: will Trigger Software manage to create a product that actually closes the gap in customer experience, or will the new app simply be an updated version of the same architectural logic — now on a modern platform, but with the same business priorities of a bank focused on corporate clients rather than on retail UX.
