What’s happening
Large-scale construction of the Vynohradar metro line is underway in Kyiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said (source — UNN) that the completion of the main structures of the "Mostytska" station is planned for 2026. The contractor is working around the clock simultaneously at six construction sites, while observing curfew requirements.
“They have already built the right-hand tunnel from 'Mostytska' to 'Syrets', completed part of the ventilation nodes, and relocated utilities. Overall, the length of the first phase of the Vynohradar metro is 3.7 km. Works are being carried out in difficult hydrogeological conditions and amid an extensive network of utilities at various depths, in a densely built-up urban area.”

Technical context
The first phase is 3.7 km long. Part of the tunnels is being built using two-tier monolithic tunnel technology — a rare engineering solution for Ukraine that provides greater throughput and saves space in dense development. According to the city, about one third of these two-level structures has already been installed.
The key reason the timeline targets 2026 is technical challenges: difficult hydrogeological conditions, a dense network of engineering communications, and work in a constrained urban space. These factors force the contractor to deploy work on several fronts at the same time.
What it means for residents
The launch of the first phase of the metro will significantly improve the Podilskyi District’s access to the city center and other districts — it’s about everyday mobility, time savings and reduced load on surface transport. Beyond the direct transport effect, the project has symbolic significance: building infrastructure under difficult conditions is a demonstration of the city’s resilience.
“The Vynohradar metro will improve transport services for residents of the Podilskyi District and the city as a whole. It will provide fast and convenient connections to the center and other districts of the capital.”

What’s next
After the main structures are completed, interior finishing, safety systems installation and operational testing will begin. A separate issue is agreement on the station’s name: city authorities announced that "Mostytska" will receive a new name before opening. For Kyiv residents and the city now, what matters not only are photos of steel structures, but clear schedules for the final stage and quality control.
Analytical concluding thought: carrying out construction on 6 sites simultaneously is not flashy PR but a pragmatic response to technical and temporal constraints. If work continues according to the stated schedule, 2026 looks like a realistic date for commissioning the first phase — with all the practical benefits expected for Kyiv residents.
